Accessory Breast Removal
Accessory breast removal takes out extra breast tissue that developed outside the normal breast, most often in the armpit.
Category
Breast surgery changes the size, shape or position of the breasts: augmentation with implants or your own fat, a lift for sagging, a reduction for heavy breasts, removal or exchange of old implants, and chest reduction for men. All are performed under general anaesthesia, usually as a day case or with one night in hospital, and most patients stay five to seven days abroad before flying. The right operation depends on breast tissue, skin quality and goals rather than on price.

Breast surgery covers augmentation with implants or fat, lifts for sagging, reductions for heavy breasts, implant removal or exchange, and chest reduction for men. These are among the most frequently performed cosmetic operations worldwide and among the best studied.
The operations differ in what they change. Augmentation adds volume and some upper fullness but does not lift; a mastopexy repositions the nipple and removes loose skin but adds no volume; a reduction removes tissue and reshapes; implant removal restores the natural breast, often with a lift to take up the slack. Fat transfer offers a modest, natural increase without a device.
The right operation depends on breast tissue, skin quality and goals rather than on price, so each page sets out who is a good candidate, the implant and incision choices, the complication rates that matter, and how long to stay before flying.
Start from what bothers you, not from a procedure name. A consultation confirms the choice.
Small breasts, or volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, with the nipple still above the fold
Implants give a predictable size; fat transfer gives roughly one cup size using your own tissue.
Sagging breasts with the nipple at or below the fold
A lift on its own restores shape; add an implant only if you also want more upper fullness.
Heavy breasts causing neck, shoulder or back pain, grooves from bra straps or rashes
Reduction is the operation with the highest patient satisfaction in most published series.
Old, hardened, ruptured or unwanted implants
Removal with or without a lift, or exchange for a new implant, depending on the skin and your wishes.
Enlarged breast tissue in men
Liposuction, gland removal or both; persistent gynecomastia after puberty rarely resolves on its own.
Combining operations saves a second anaesthetic and a second trip but lengthens surgery and recovery. Surgeons set limits on total operating time.
Restores position and adds fullness in one operation. It is technically demanding, and some surgeons prefer to stage the two for safety.
Replaces ageing implants and tightens the skin that has stretched over them, often with a change of size or position.
A lift or augmentation combined with a tummy tuck and liposuction after pregnancy. Total operating time and blood loss set the limit.
Liposuction of the outer chest and armpit fold gives a cleaner contour than reduction alone.
Beyond the general risks of surgery, breast operations carry risks specific to the implant or the blood supply of the nipple. Capsular contracture, rippling, rotation and rupture are implant problems that lead to further surgery in a meaningful minority of patients over ten years. Lifts and reductions can alter nipple sensation and occasionally the ability to breastfeed, and every breast operation can leave asymmetry or scars that widen. Rare but serious risks include breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma with textured implants.
Ask which implant brand and surface the surgeon uses and why, whether they will show you their own patients at one year and later, and how they follow up implants over time. A surgeon who measures your chest and discusses limits on size is more trustworthy than one who agrees with any request. Breast surgery should take place in a hospital with an anaesthetist, and the quote should say whether the implant, garments, medication and revision cover are included.
Most breast operations need five to seven days abroad: a hospital night for larger operations, a check at day two to three and a wound review before flying. Bring a front-fastening surgical bra or buy the one the clinic specifies, and plan to sleep on your back with the upper body raised for the first weeks.
Arm movement is limited for about a week and lifting for four to six weeks, so ask for help with luggage and children at home. Flying home is usually allowed from day five once drains are out and the wounds are dry. Book a follow-up with a local doctor at two weeks and keep the implant card and operation report with your records.

Five to seven days for most operations. Larger combinations such as a lift with implants or a reduction may need one hospital night and a stay of seven days. Surgeons want to see the wounds once before you fly.
Not on a fixed schedule, but they are not lifetime devices. Regulators advise that most patients will need at least one further operation, and periodic imaging is recommended for silicone implants. Reasons for replacement include contracture, rupture, rippling or a change of preference.
Most women can breastfeed after augmentation through the fold or armpit, and many after a lift. Reductions and operations that move the nipple a long way carry a higher chance of reduced milk supply. Tell your surgeon if you plan a pregnancy.
Augmentation through the fold leaves a short scar hidden under the breast, and fat transfer leaves only needle marks. Lifts and reductions need scars around the areola and often down to the fold; they fade over a year but do not disappear.
Implants give a predictable, larger change in one operation. Fat transfer gives a natural increase of about one cup size using your own tissue, needs enough donor fat, and part of the fat is absorbed. Many patients combine the two.
